Studies have shown that women benefit from routine screening for breast cancer with mammography. VCU Breast Imaging, an American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, offers a variety of imaging services and procedures to aid in the early detection of breast cancer and evaluation of related symptoms.
All of our breast imaging services — ranging from mammography, breast ultrasound and MRI to imaging-guided procedures such as cyst aspiration and needle biopsy — help us provide you with thorough and timely evaluation and diagnosis. Results for most biopsies are available within 24 hours and one of our breast imaging radiologists will explain the results, discuss any recommendations and schedule any additional consultations as indicated based on the biopsy findings.
Tomosynthesis (3-D mammogram) is a relatively new technique that can be done as part of screening or diagnostic mammography. It is an x-ray study of the breast that takes images in thin slices through the breast tissue so it can be evaluated more thoroughly.
